| Boys wore short trousers, long socks, sandals or boots, a shirt and tie (usually a school tie often knitted), worn with a v-neck jumper and a jacket or school blazer. The whole outfit was finished off with a cap, usually from school or the Cubs. |

| Girls wore cotton frocks (dresses) in summer and gym-slips and blouses in winter were standard,, worn with long socks or lisle stockings, sandals or shoes, topped with cardigans or jumpers, and either a school beret or a hat (straw in summer, felt in winter). |

underpants/knickers and vests. Pyjamas or Nightie and usually a dressing gown
were also needed. There was no such thing as tissues so handkerchiefs were needed |

| If you wanted to buy new clothes you had to pass over COUPONS. Each item was worth so many of these. Every man, woman, child was allowed 48 coupons per year. |

| I work in the tank factory every day. When I come home I do the washing. I get very tired. What I wash tonight will NOT be dry for tomorrow ... ( I haven't got a tumble dry machine ... I haven't got a washing machine and I get fed up of the mangle!! ) |
