| At St. Giles School
in Horsted Keynes the Headmaster would give an object lesson to his Junior
children every Friday. The School Log
book says that in 1902 he talked about Postage stamp, cotton, rice, ostrich, rooks,
a penny, salt.
To the Infants he
talked about
The
cow, the clockface, a table, water, a straw hat, coal, sugar, the Union Jack Remember, Pestalozzi's idea was that each child should have the object. I think there would be a problem with the Ostrich and the cow!! Keeping a rook still would difficult as well. But these were not real object lessons in the way that Pestalozzi had in mind .... they were probably more like lectures. Here are some objects ( just pictures I'm afraid ... but you could try with real objects ) How much do your senses tell you? Compare your observations with the rest of the class.
