Paris is such a large and complex place. All
we hope to do here is to give a 'sense of place'. The section is designed to be
completed sequentially ... if you have a class of children, each individual or group can
work at their own pace. Our Germany and Dominica sections are similar in structure.
By the end, your children should be VERY proficient in using websites!!
If you require the children to keep a log of where they have been, then you can print off
a 'diary' by clicking here.Activities:
Saturday:
Leaving Waterloo ... children need to read a 24hour timetable
to work out which train to catch..
The Hotel ... children try to match hotel to the tastes of
the family. There is no correct answer ... you can't please everybody....
The Cup of Coffee ... children connect to the web to find out
the price of coffee in various Paris Cafes and are asked to calculate the average price.
The 'Posh' Meal ... the problem here is that the Menu is in
French. No need to dash off to the nearest MacDonalds as on-line help is available from
Gaston the waiter.
Sunday
Sightseeing ... Paris has many, many
wonderful monuments. We haven't come to see these, but to have a look at the activities of
some of the people ... see a bit of French life. Children need to observe small cutouts
from larger pictures and then connect to the MagicParis Website to find out more
information about them.
The Louvre ... Well we came to find the Mona Lisa ... that's just what the
children must do. Set free inside a 350 room museum they have to navigate the SMARTWEB
site to find the painting for themselves . ( Hint .... Denon Wing ... First Floor )
Sunday
Asterix the Gaul ... Characters from the books are introduced and children
are presented with a 'comprehension' exercise. As a bit of fun they can also explore
the official Parc Asterix website
Charles de Gaulle Airport ... another brief 24 hour timetable problem ... then
a short slide show abot the flight home. Just exactly what souvenir did they buy?
To be enjoyed!!
