Over 3,500,000 children, women and old people were evacuated to 'safe places' to escape the German bombing raids.
No-one knew where they were going ... no-one knew when or if they were ever coming back.

Many of the children seemed to be happy, they were going away, somewhere different,
a holiday....away from the bombs. They were relishing the fact that they were going to do something that they had never done before.

But not Barry and Mary.

They just refused to get on the train.  Read the experiences of some of the evacuee children and decide if you think the children were right to stay at home.
