I left London when I was 5 years old with my 2 brothers ages 3 and 6 years old in 1939.
One brother was sent to Cambridge and my smaller brother and I were sent to Saxton Green in Suffolk.
We stayed with the Aldridge family who operated the local windmill. I remember watching the sails of the windmill going around and listening to the squeaks of the blades as they rotated.
In early 1940 my Mum was in an air raid shelter and a bomb made a direct hit and she and 39 people were killed.
The Aldridges were in their 50's and made it very obvious that the last thing they needed were two Londoners.
I stayed with them for 2 years but finally they requested that I be moved.
They just didnt like me and I was sent to Harston near Cambridge to my other brother.
In 1945 I went back to London.
In 1948 I moved to the United States.
